Lagoons and stabilization ponds

City of Mapleton, North Dakota

Primary pond, 5.4 tested acres. Surveyed June 2021 and again April 2026.

Results

  • Average sludge depth down from 19.68 inches to 11.64 inches
  • Sludge volume down 57.05 percent, from 2,921,199 gallons to 1,254,430 gallons
  • 1,189,000 gallons of usable pond storage recovered
  • Roughly $183,000 avoided in mechanical sludge removal, based on $0.11 per gallon
  • 336,528 sonar data points collected on the 2026 survey

City of Wadena, Minnesota

Activated sludge plant, average daily flow 500,000 gallons. T197 Mega Bugs HC added at the head of the aeration basin.

Results

  • Biosolids down 45,500 gallons year on year, a 6 percent reduction
  • Dry tons down 15 percent, from 74 to 64
  • Better cold weather operation
  • The plant responded better to higher than normal spike flows and to slug BOD loading
  • Biosolids fell in the same year the city began phosphorus reduction, which normally raises biosolids production by 30 to 60 percent

St. Croix County, Wisconsin

CTH G and CTH Z, 4.3 miles combined, both built over poor quality sand lift base. Tested by American Engineering Testing.

Results

  • Resilient modulus 79,000 to 101,000 psi against a 30,000 psi reference value
  • Layer coefficient 0.19 to 0.21
  • Equivalency factors of 1.4 against crushed aggregate and 1.9 against crushed gravel
